Tailor-made fences.

What we do.
Fence Construction
We notch every pole and use locally sourced Big Timber screws. This gives every length of fence so much more longevity. Why notch? A notched pole is much more likely to stay in place because it has drastically more contact with the jack. Why Timber screws? We normally put up fences with “green” materials, meaning it has yet to “cure” (dry). This makes nailing easier, but can cause the poles (and even jacks) to split. Brace poles are fastened every five spans with three points of attachment.
Fence Repair
No matter what kind of fence it is, we’re happy to come fix it for you. Whether it needs a few new top rails after the neighbor’s bull got in, or needs some wires tightened up where the deer cross, or maybe a new brace put in where your kid backed into the fence with their pickup. Big or small… we can help.
Re-construciton
Jack fence can last over 20 years in decent conditions, but you can get half-again as many years out of the jacks as you can the poles. If your poles are starting to sag and split, let us revitalize your jack fence with a fresh laying of rails. We’ll even provide you with a heap of firewood out of the old poles. Now that’s recycling, Montana style!
Fence Removal
Regardless of if you hire us to put in a new fence, we’re happy to help take down any old fences that you want out of there. We can save the materials for firewood if you wanted. For a little extra we’ll even buck it up into burnable blocks and stack it on your back porch.
Clearing Brush & Timber
If you’re planning to put fence in along a new boundary, or an existing boundary has gotten overgrown, often times a path needs to be cleared. If you want to save any of the materials for firewood (or otherwise), we’re happy to block and stack it for you. If it needs to be made into slash piles for burning or disposed of, we can do that, too.
Nordic Trail Grooming
Ever dream of having your very own nordic trail right out your back door? Now it’s just a phone call away! We groom trails for Gallatin County, the City of Bozeman, MSU, local schools, and a variety of private properties. Whether you’re looking for a wide corduroy trail for skate skiing, or just a two-track set for classic skiing, we can make that happen.
Gates & Entrances
Every property needs its threshold, and we’ll create something that echoes your welcome statement to visitors. The “Big Hole” style entrance (pictured below) is the classic gate and entrance accompanying jack fence, but we’re happy to get out the pad and pencil if you’ve got something in mind.
Wind Breaks & Snow Fence
Does your orchard or livestock need some protection from that North wind? Does your driveway get filled in with snow every time the wind blows? We install traditional snow fence for folks (pictured below), but you might consider jack fence for a wind break or snow fence on your property. We add more poles to stop the wind and snow, and it still looks natural to the eye. We stake down every jack to keep the fence in place
Custom Log Work
Maybe you’ve got a garden that you’d like to fence off from wildlife with something to match your jack fence? And perhaps you’d like to have some raised beds that follow the same style? How bout a deck railing, swing set, benches, or other type of gathering area? Most yard fixtures and garden structures can all be made from bark-on lodgepole pine.
